My natural ingredient skin care & bath routine

My natural ingredient skin care & bath routine

My tried and tested (and loved) natural skin and bath products.

About a year ago I became aware of the enormous amount of chemicals I was putting on my body each day, through my skin care, to my makeup and even on my hair, and (terrifyingly) in my mouth. Having discovered that certain synthetic chemicals on the ingredient list of my products were endocrine disruptors, or potentially carcinogenic, I decided to ditch them and make the switch to natural alternatives instead.

Here are my tried and tested products that I use daily:

Natural Perfume

Commercial, synthetic perfumes do not have to disclose their ingredient list as it is seen as a trade secret, meaning there could be any number of toxic chemicals hiding in them. But luckily there are a growing number of brands right now doing the complete opposite and using only natural, botanical ingredients and listing them all.

Heretic Parfum Natural Perfumes

These scents are just incredible. They smell complex and unique, yet commercially appealing - like no other natural perfume I have come across before. Natural perfumes do not smell as strongly as commercial/synthetic fragrances and the wear time of them is less, but it really doesn’t bother me to add another spray of perfume later in the day.

Vanessa Megan Natural Perfumes

I’ve only tried one of these scents but it exceeded my expectations. What’s interesting about these is that Vanessa Megan uses water as the base for her perfumes instead of alcohol which is more drying to the skin.

Hair Care

Shampoo With A Purpose Shampoo Bar

I was hesitant to try out a shampoo bar as I thought it might be awkward to use and not very effective, but oh how wrong I was. I have fine, straight hair and this actually seems to create body and leaves my hair soft. I’m a convert.

Black Chicken Remedies HairOM Oil

This is a great hair oil to use once a week to nourish your scalp. It reduces itchy, flaky scalp and leaves it moisturised without being greasy. It also smells great thanks to the rosemary oil, which is always a bonus.

Natural Hair Care and mouthwash

Skin Care

Go-To Skin Care Properly Clean

A foaming face wash which is gentle but effective. It leaves my skin clean but not stripped of moisture.

Dirty Hippie Cosmetics Organic Floral Water Toning Mist

I use the Tea Tree and Orange toner as my skin is typically oily/combination, but they also have a rose option for dry skin. The price point is great and you can buy a refill bottle which reduces waste.

Go-To Skin Care Face Hero

Having oily skin I never thought about using a face oil as I assumed I should be avoiding oils of any kind. I didn’t realise that oily skin can be dehydrated and actually benefits from oils as they balance the skin, and essentially make it less oily throughout the day.

Black Chicken Remedies Axilla Natural Deodorant

It took a lot of testing to find a natural deodorant that worked for me. The more common types that contain sodium bicarbonate caused irritation and actually didn’t work for me in general. But this one smells great, is gentle on my skin and, most importantly, actually works for me. It’s a very different product compared to a commercial antiperspirant but I honestly prefer it.

Natural Skin Care

Dental Care

Green and Kind Bamboo Toothbrush

A great way to reduce the amount of plastic that makes its way into your bathroom.

Georganics Natural Toothpaste

Some natural toothpastes don’t seem to be effective and leave your teeth feeling not so fresh. But these leave my teeth feeling clean and the charcoal whitening option is a personal favourite.

Natural Family Co Natural Mouthwash

A less intense mint mouthwash, but honestly the best natural version I’ve tried.

*I have no affiliation with any of the brands mentioned, these are just products I have purchased myself and genuinely love.
